About Telugus in Maharashtra
Telugu people are living in the state of Maharashtra since last 300 years. Telugu people have also worked in the army of Great Maratha King Shivaji Maharaj and our earlier generations were quite successful in state politics as well. Since last 50 years there has been tremendous increase in Telugu Population due to work opportunities in Textile Mills , Construction and other avenues of Employment activity in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, Bhiwandi, Kalyan, Dombivali, Vasai, Virar, Mira Road, Solapur, Nanded, Ahmednagar, Pune, Aurangabad, Nagpur, Gadchiroli, Nasik, Jalgoan, Sangamner, and many other areas of Maharashtra. Currently Telugu population is estimated to be over 50 Lacs in widely scattered across length & breadth of Maharashtra State.
Maharashtra is the KARMBHHOMI of all Telugu people, silently contributing to the economy of the State in all possible ways. However we are not well absorbed into main stream society. We have many issues / hurdles in areas of their Education, Getting Govt. Scholarships, Getting Caste Certificate, Jobs and other Govt. benefits. Over 90% of the State Telugu people are very poor live in slums or 10X10 room in very un-hiegenic conditions. Various Telugu Organizations ( NGOs ) have been actively participating in the process of helping Telugu people of this State, but their issues are not heard in the corridors of Municipal Corporations, Nagar palika's or State Assembly. Our various Demonstrations, Protests over past so many years have not yielded any results, except false assurance and hope from the authorities.
There is a strong need of creating SOCIO - ECONOMIC - POLITICAL AWARENESS & Empowering Telugu people to participate in the Political process of the state and develop Telugu People Politically to solve long pending matters of Telugu People. Till date we have seen very few elected representatives of Telugu people and at some time, there is tremendous infighting among our own people and thus loosing out elections to others. To address & overcome all issues and to build Political leadership among Telugu people, strong need of a new platform is felt and thus MTM is conceived.
